Colours of Autumn Cruise Itinerary

Join us on a journey from Cologne to Amsterdam and see the spectacular sights along the mighty Rhine and the meandering Moselle on this leisurely cruise. Discover vineyards, fairytale castles, quaint villages, picturesque towns and enjoy the rich canvas of vibrant reds and oranges that herald the autumn colours. We complete our cruise in Amsterdam, the exciting capital of the Netherlands, where you can explore the cobbled streets and winding canals for the perfect end to your autumn cruise.

Day 1: UK – Cologne
We travel to Cologne, which sits right on the Rhine river in Germany, and board our ship for a relaxing evening.

Day 2: Cologne – Bonn
Spend the morning at leisure or join our optional excursion for a guided tour of Cologne’s old town. Relax on the sun deck as we cruise to the birthplace of Beethoven and former capital of western Germany, Bonn, which is our destination for this afternoon and we have free time to explore.

Day 3: Bonn – Koblenz – Cochem
We arrive in Koblenz this morning where you are free to explore the historic town where the Rhine and Moselle rivers join. Alternatively, you can join our optional excursion to enjoy a spot of wine tasting and free time in Ahrweiller before returning to our ship, where the afternoon can be spent relaxing onboard as we cruise along the Moselle, following the twists and turns of the river to Cochem, where we spend the evening.

Day 4: Cochem – Boppard
This morning you are free to explore Cochem or join our optional excursion to Lahneck Castle, a 13th century castle stands on a steep rock above the confluence of the Lahn River with the Rhine. Relax in the lounge as we retrace our route along the Moselle to Boppard, the meeting place of the six valleys. This evening you can join our optional wine tasting.

Day 5: Boppard – Rüdesheim
This morning we cruise along the Rhine, which leads us past the legendary Lorelei. We stop at the quaint wine town of Rüdesheim where you can enjoy the many highlights on or optional excursion, including a cable car ride for panoramic views across the Rhine valley. Join our evening optional excursion visiting a traditional wine cellar to sample some of the region’s delicious wine.

Day 6: Düsseldorf
We arrive in Düsseldorf around lunchtime. You are free to discover Düsseldorf or you can you our optional city tour. Düsseldorf is a cosmopolitan city with small town charm and a wonderful mix of modern and historic attractions. Landmarks include the Rhine Tower, the unique Gehry Buildings in the harbour, the old town, a variety of symbolic statues and the famous Kings Avenue.

Day 7: Amsterdam
Today we are free to explore the fascinating city of Amsterdam. Here you can join our optional city tour which takes in the main sights or explore the city which is easily explored on foot and it’s a good opportunity to browse one of the many markets. If museums appeal then you are spoilt for choice, with Amsterdam claiming to have the highest density in the world. Highlights are the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and Hermitage Amsterdam, along with several diamond factories which offer free tours. You could then round off the day with a few drinks on one of the many terraces.

Day 8: Amsterdam - UK
This morning we bid farewell to our captain and crew and disembark for the return journey to the UK.

Coach via Dover

On many of our cruises you can take advantage of our convenient and FREE regional coach departures aboard our modern executive coaches from a town or city near you to the port of departure and onwards to meet the ship.

Ferry crossing at Dover

When you travel by coach or car, you will join a ferry at Dover, depending on your chosen cruise, and cross over to Europe. Our coach will then take you to meet our ship at the embarkation point as shown in the cruise itinerary.

Overnight hotel in Dover or Ashford

Travel at your own pace, in the comfort of your own vehicle and stay overnight at Dover or Ashford, in accommodation close to the port of departure and be collected/returned by our coach. Prices for Ashford start from £59 per person per night and for Dover for £65 per person per night on a bed and breakfast basis and include parking for one vehicle for the duration of your cruise.

Eurostar from London St Pancras

Enjoy the benefits of rail travel – boarding at London St Pancras International, you will be whisked effortlessly along by Eurostar whilst relaxing in your reserved seat. You have the freedom to stretch your legs whenever the mood takes you and purchase drinks and snacks from the buffet carriage.

By Air

Air travel is included as an air inclusive option with flights and return transfers to the ship included.

The grapes that grow here on steep, terraced vineyards make glowing, velvety red wines which are among the best of their kind. It’s a tradition established by the Romans and one that continues to this day.

Lahneck castle is a medieval fortress located in the city of Lahn. The 13th-century castle stands on a steep rock salient above the confluence of the Lahn River with the Rhine


Boppard wine tasting


The picturesque town of Boppard is the pearl of the Rhine and has many beautiful sights including a Roman fort, a late Romanesque church and a medieval market square. Sample local wines at one of the wines and find out all about the cultivation and origin of the grapes and how they are made into wine. Enjoy wine in its simplest and most beautiful form – right there at the vineyard where it is made.

A road train ride transports you to view fascinating examples of early 1900 mechanical music making systems at Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum. We also include a cable car ride that rises 37 metres up the hillside to reach the iconic Niederwald monument. This is a unique experience, taking you over the sloping vineyards for an amazing panoramic view of the romantic Rhine valley.

Visit a traditional wine cellar to sample some of the region’s best wines, before exploring the captivating Drosselgasse, which is filled with little taverns and courtyards and is the cultural heart of the town.


Dusseldorf city tour


Düsseldorf’s famous Old Town is a great place to explore. It is known as ‘the longest bar in the world’ because of its many taverns and restaurants along a single street. It also has some notable landmarks which our guide will point out with enlightening tales, including the square, the city hall and the statue of Jan Wellem. You can then enjoy a famous beer (not included) brewed in only a few places in the world from an old traditional recipe.

Our city tour is aboard a tourist bus with a fully transparent roof (which opens in good weather), offering panoramic views of the city, canals, squares and main attractions.
