Taste of the Danube

If you’re new to river cruising or haven’t yet ventured as far as the Danube, this is the perfect holiday as it lets you experience one of Europe’s great rivers in just six days, while still allowing you to relax and enjoy your surroundings which is the essence of a river cruise. With the speed and convenience of air travel included, we arrive at our destination in no time at all and set off along the Danube as you make yourself at home aboard our 4 star ship the MS Serenity. Highlights along the way include the stunning beauty of the Wachau valley, the architectural paradise of Budapest, the musical city of Vienna and the charm of Bratislava. But be prepared – this taste of the Danube will leave you with a craving for more...

Day 1: UK – Budapest
We fly to Budapest in Hungary where our ship awaits. We have a relaxing evening onboard.

Day 2: Budapest
This morning join our optional excursion which takes you through the sweeping plains of Hungary to Lajosmizse. Here we visit a traditional stud farm and enjoy a tour of the grounds in a horse-drawn carriage, before watching a spectacular live Puszta horse show. In the afternoon we have time to explore Budapest. Make sure you visit some of the most prominent highlights of the city known as the ‘pearl of the Danube’. These include the 700-year-old Matthias Church, Parliament building – a magnificent example of neo-gothic architecture, and Buda Castle, which rises 48 metres above the river. We set sail in the late afternoon and cruise towards Bratislava.

Day 3: Bratislava
Today we arrive in Bratislava, the historic capital of Slovakia which is dominated by its castle. There’s also the unique suspension bridge, another key landmark, regarded as the building of the century when it opened in 1972. Join our optional guided tour to take in the main sights and experience the rich culture in and around the old town. We sail this evening towards Vienna.

Grand palaces, baroque castles, magnificent squares and striking monuments are just some of the key features of this beautiful world heritage city. In the morning you can join our optional city tour and in the afternoon we have an optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace, which takes you on a journey through time as we explore some of the 1,441 rooms. You also have the option to see this beautiful city lit up at night, before we cast off later this evening to Melk.
